Job Posting: Programs Manager

Job Description

The American Iranian Council invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Programs Manager. AIC is a non-profit (tax-exempt) and non-partisan educational and research organization dedicated to promoting dialogue and understanding between the United States and Iran. The Council is led by Board of Directors and has offices in Princeton, Washington D.C and New York City.

The Program Manager is required to expand AIC programs in the fields of educational and cultural exchanges, in an effort to enhance partnerships between US institutions and their Iranian counterparts.

The position requires excellent planning and logistical skills, strong communications skills, strategic thinking, the ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently, as well as an appreciation of cultural diversity in the US and Iran. A background working with international exchange programs and use of online dialogue platforms is essential. The position reports to the AIC Executive Director and Director of Development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and administer academic dialogue and exchange programs
  • Prepare grant and budget proposals, as well as all associated reports
  • Establish partnerships to expand AIC programs outreach in US and Iran
  • Develop and organize dialogue events, both offline and online
  • Maintain and expand AIC databases
  • Oversee the work of staff involved in the program implementation

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in international relations, educational development or related fields
  • 5 to 7 years of previous experience managing international exchange programs
  • Practical knowledge of establishing and facilitating online conferences
  • Strong commitment to American Iranian Council’s mission and vision
  • Ability to write and communicate effectively in English
  • Willingness for international travel on occasion, when required
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and in a time-conscious manner
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to an overall team effort
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment under pressure
  • Financial management skills, including budget development and financial tracking
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills, including strong knowledge of webinar platforms
  • Knowledge of US-Iran relations and Middle East history is strongly preferred

Kayvon Afshari

Kayvon Afshari managed the campaign to elect Hooshang Amirahmadi as President of Iran. In this role, he directed the campaign’s event planning, publicity, online social media, web analytics, and delivered speeches. Mr. Afshari has also been working at the CBS News foreign desk for over five years. He has coordinated coverage of Iran’s 2009 post-election demonstrations, the Arab Spring, the earthquake in Haiti, and many other stories of international significance. He holds a Master in International Relations from New York University’s Department of Politics, and graduated with distinction from McGill University in 2007 with a double major in political science and Middle Eastern studies. At NYU, his research focused on quantitative analysis and the Middle East with an emphasis on US-Iran relations. In his 2012 Master’s thesis, he devised a formula to predict whether Israel would launch a pre-emptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, concluding that an overt strike would not materialize.
