Nowruz Greeting
/Dear Friend,
On behalf of everyone here at the American Iranian Council (AIC), we wish you a Happy Nowruz!
Nowruz is the first day of spring and the first day of the new Iranian calendar year, which will be 1401 on March 20 (2022). Nowruz has been celebrated for over three millennia, and Iranians of all religious and ethnic orientations share in the joys and prosperity it promises.
Nowruz is known as a time for fresh beginnings, and with the prospect for a renewed JCPOA on the horizon, the true spirit of Nowruz for Iran and the Iranian people may play out this year not just in homes in Iran and around the world, but also on the troubled international stage.
As we look forward towards a renewed nuclear deal, it is notable that sanctions have recently become a topic of extensive discussion due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In this context, it is important to remember that the Iranian people have long suffered from maximum sanctions. Westerners may now have a better understanding of the severity of these economic measures imposed against the Iranian people.
AIC's view of sanctions is that they are harmful to the well-being of sanctioned people, and not always to their governments. The international community also suffers from the effects of sanctions and economic decoupling. Instead, we have consistently valued communication between peoples as an essential means for mutual understanding, better relations, and a more peaceful world.
So it is with cautious optimism that we believe a renewed JCPOA in the year 1401 can help bring more peace and understanding to the relationship between the US and Iran, which has been fraught with animosity between the governments for over 40 years. With your support, in 2022, we can continue AIC’s important work towards improving understanding and dialogue between the two countries and their peoples.
We know you support our work towards peace and hope you will help the Council by making a tax-deductible contribution today. Please click here to show your support for improved U.S.-Iran relations.
