Nowruz Greeting from AIC

Dear Friend,

On behalf of everyone here at the American Iranian Council, we wish you a Happy Nowruz!

Nowruz is the first day of spring and the first day of the new Iranian calendar year, which will be 1402 on March 21 (2023).  Nowruz has been celebrated for over three millennia, and Iranians of all religious and ethnic orientations share in the joys and prosperity it promises. 
 
Certainly, many Iranians will be hoping this Nowruz brings with it a significant change of circumstances.  Last year was an especially tumultuous period for the country following the death of twenty-two-year-old Mahsa Amini.  During the widespread protests that followed, AIC called for the government of Iran to curb its use of force against protesters and accept its peoples’ legitimate demands. 
 
Commenting on Iranian internal affairs is a highly unusual step for our organization.  Over the past three decades, AIC’s mission has been focused on international relations, reducing tensions between the US and Iran, and promoting peace through dialogue and diplomacy.  However, as we said in our official statement, from time to time there are events so extraordinary that they require our extra attention. 
 
Next year will continue to be a challenging time both for the people of Iran, and for tenuous US-Iran relations.  Ongoing sanctions against the country, faltering JCPOA discussions and Iran’s support of Russia in the war in Ukraine, all portend a difficult year ahead. 
 
Given these headwinds, we hope you will consider helping the Council to sustain its diplomatic and peace-building efforts.

  • Media Guides to inform news outlets and consumers about major issues in the news relating to Iran.

  • AIC Updates, which include insightful analyses from our Board members and administrators.
